Robeson County Humane Society & Friends for Life Shelter, located in Lumberton, North Carolina, is the only state licensed no-kill, non-profit rescue facility in Robeson County. We received our 501c 3 designation in 1990. The RCHS and it's Friends for Life shelter were founded to find loving homes for adoptable animals while promoting responsible pet ownership with an emphasis on spaying and neutering. RCHS's Friends for Life staff and volunteers care for all the dogs and cats living at the facility until appropriate forever homes are found for them. We welcome your gifts of time, talent, and treasure. There are many volunteer opportunities, both at the shelter and with other humane society projects, that we need our communities to help with.

We provide initial vet care for our animals. Health assessment, vaccines, emergency care, spay/neuter, as well as heartworm and flea/tick prevention are done at intake, After adoption you should schedule an appointment with your regular vet to get started on the right track with your pet. Once it is given a clean bill of health (there are some conditions we can't foresee or diagnose) your pet should be seen annually by your vet for a physical examination, vaccines, parasite test, dental check, and any needed bloodwork or other tests that your veterinarian recommends. Older dogs may need to be seen more often.
